BMW - the X program continues - X3 - X5 - X5 PDF Print E-mail
Written by http://www.eurocarblog.com/

Autobild has a new batch of sketches by Huckfeldt of future BMW "X" models.
Starting with the X3 restyling, expected in a very short while, while the entirely new model will be coming only in 2010, it will be a bit bigger and will finally get "premium" class finishings.

The X5/E70 will debuting in Paris this autumn and it will be available at the begininning of 2007. The new version of BMW's first SUV must live up to the high expectations created by its predecessor and by the evolution of the market. There will be no aesthetic experimentation, either on the inside or the outside. The new X5 will be produced in Spartanburg (NC, USA) and its main focus will be on the american market, and it will have 7 seats like its main rivals, the Audi Q7 and the Mercedes GL. The new X5 will also get a new xDrive system that will be capable of a more flexible torque split between the front and rear axle and the left and right wheels.
A completely new model is the X6, expected in 2008, with sales numbers estimated in 50,000 units per year. The X6 will be positioned higher than the X5, with coupè-like lines reported to be inspired on the Infiniti FX, but more "luxury-oriented". Internal space is thought to be more in line with the X3.

The X6 should be more performance-oriented than the X5, with better engines, less weight and more attention to road handling.

And it doesn't end there: there's talk of an X7 (luxury 7-seater) and of an X4 (a smaller coupè-suv) ....
