Drifting Explained!

Written by http://www.streetracing.org/japan/drift/drift2

It seems as if the drifting fever is catching on here in Australia & America so Street Racing has asked Ryan Stevens of Velocity Racing Team Japan to give us an in-depth explanantion of the art.

What Is Drifting?

Basically, drifting is getting your car sideways down a road. It doesn't sound very hard does it? Sounds a lot like power sliding huh? Well it isn't. It's much more complex. Instead of a drifter causing a drift and then countering to straighten out, he will instead over-counter so his car goes into another drift. That is the reason many drifters do it in the mountains, because there are many sharp turns strung together. So in essence a good drifter has the ability to take five or six opposing turns without having traction at any point in time.

ANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Fernandez Racing teammates Scott Sharp and Kosuke Matsuura posted top-10 finishes in the Bombardier Learjet 500k at Texas Motor Speedway, are solidly in the top 10 in the standings, and have some of their stronger racetracks yet to come on the schedule.

“I am just really happy,” Sharp said.

The IndyCar Series veteran should be.

Sharp, a two-time winner in 16 starts on the 1.5-mile oval, advanced two positions for his fourth top 10 (and highest) finish of the season. He closed on the lead pack in the final stages of the 200-lap lap under the lights and passed Vitor Meira’s No. 4 Panther Racing car (which coasted to the line after exhausting its fuel) for fifth.

Not content with becoming Formula One racing’s youngest world champion and then winning five from eight races at the start of his title defence, Renault’s Fernando Alonso has a few more achievements in his sights for the rest of the 2006 season.

His British win also means he has taken 74 points from a possible 80 so far in 2006 - a scoring rate of 92.5 percent, beating Michael Schumacher’s dominant 2002 and 2004 seasons and surpassing Nigel Mansell’s imperious 1992 campaign.
